Think of Us (TOU) operates as an R+D lab for child welfare. We take on strategic projects with the goal of causing “good trouble” and, ultimately, driving concrete, structural changes in policy, practice, resource flows, power dynamics, relationships and mental models. Our ultimate goal is to integrate Lived Experience at every level, ensuring everyone touched by the system has the conditions they need to Heal, Develop and Thrive.

We work across the ecosystem of current and former foster youth, child welfare workers, philanthropists and policymakers to Spark, Support and Drive to systematically center lived experience touched by the system.

The Role

We are looking for a thoughtful and dynamic People leader, who has a deep understanding of how to bring an equity lens to their work. Reporting to the Chief Operations and Financial Officer, this role has an ambitious remit - inclusive of people operations, performance management, recruiting, DEIA, values, and culture. A strong candidate will bring both the strategy and vision to define our values and build a culture that is people focused, and operational chops to bring that vision to execution.

Responsibilities

Engagement + Culture

  • Spearhead the next phase of our values work: actualizing and embedding our values into the fabric of the organization
  • Lead the development and implementation of our DEIA strategy
  • Establish our Learning and Development program
  • Create a People Engagement strategy that encompasses the entire employee lifecycle: onboarding, learning and development, and retention

Talent + Recruitment

  • Spearhead our recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding from top to bottom: recruiting process & metrics, job descriptions, compensation benchmarking and levels, employee handbook, payroll & benefits, and exit processes
  • Create our talent retention strategy and structures: establish our goals and baselines, evaluate and address retention risks, create the systems to elevate concerns to the rest of the Senior leadership team
  • Develop our management and leadership coaching approach, and build the structures and training to support our growing management team
  • Streamline our systems, tools, and process for performance management, and ensure that we are thinking about performance both on an individual and organizational level

People Operations:

  • Developing scalable HR processes and systems to support our growth
  • Create the structures and processes to translate the people and culture vision and strategy into execution - ensuring comprehensive adoption across TOU 

Requirements

About You

  • Mission Aligned: You are deeply passionate about our work and ideally have experience in and/or proximity to child welfare, systems change and policy.  
  • Culture Builder:  You are able to authentically infuse our values into our day to day interactions, practices and decisions as an organization creating norms that help us stay aligned. 
  • Team Builder: You  effectively navigate challenging situations related to feedback and staff performance and support managers in developing their teams.
  • Strong Collaborator: You have a desire to bring cross-functional teams together to get feedback and make decisions where relevant. . You understand the highest functioning organizations don’t operate in silos. 
  • Strategic Thinker: You synthesize learnings, company progress toward goals and internal morale to drive team and organization wide improvements.

Experience

  • You have 10+ years of People Ops experience, including 6+ years building and leading People Ops teams
  • Experience leading in high growth and entrepreneurial environments; experience working with remote teams strongly preferred
  • Experience starting and/or building People Ops teams from their early stages; this includes developing scalable HR processes and systems, curating management and leadership coaching, and leading organizational planning and change management
  • Demonstrated track record of infusing DEIA best practices – and strategically innovating on those best practices – into the fabric of organizations
  • Experience in performance management, inclusive of career development levels and compensation systems as well as implementing review frameworks that mitigate bias and provide clarity and accountability for teams
  • Experience building organizational cultures that align to their missions and foster creativity, curiosity, grit, and high achievement.
  • Comfortable with designing for the future, while managing the present day-to-day human people department operations. Bring the stage-adjusted best-in-breed processes.

Salary + Timeline

This role has a salary range of $160,000-$190,000. We are looking to fill this position immediately - applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
